As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey of the Mulkern Foundation—a journey I am deeply honored to be part of. This day is not just a celebration of women’s achievements; it is a reminder of the resilience, courage, and unity that define us. And as a member of this foundation, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of women coming together to create change.
The Mulkern Foundation’s story is one of hope rising from hardship. It began with a vision to empower women in Syria through education, a vision that has since blossomed into a movement. In a country torn by war and economic instability, women have shouldered immense burdens—becoming breadwinners, caregivers, and leaders in their communities. Yet, despite these challenges, they have shown an unyielding determination to rebuild their lives and uplift those around them.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the work that still lies ahead. I see this day as a call to action. It is a reminder that education is not just a tool for empowerment—it is a lifeline. For the women we serve, education has opened doors to new opportunities, allowing them to become teachers, leaders, and changemakers. It has given them the confidence to believe in their worth and the skills to shape their futures.
But this day is also deeply personal for me. As a woman, I see my own journey reflected in the stories of the women we support. I understand the challenges of balancing societal expectations, the fight for equality, and the constant push to prove our worth. Yet, I also see the beauty of our collective strength. The Mulkern Foundation has shown me that when women come together, we create a force that cannot be ignored. We become the willows—bending but never breaking, rooted in resilience, and unwavering in our pursuit of progress.
Being part of this foundation has taught me that empowerment is not a solitary journey. It is a shared mission, one that requires us to lift each other up, to celebrate each other’s successes, and to stand together in the face of adversity. It has shown me that every woman’s story is interconnected, and that by supporting one another, we can create a ripple effect of change.
On this International Women’s Day, I am filled with gratitude for the women who have paved the way and for those who continue to break barriers. I am proud to be part of a foundation that embodies the spirit of this day—a foundation that believes in the power of women to transform their lives and their communities.
So, let us celebrate the willows among us—the women who bend but do not break, who adapt and persevere, who rise and inspire. Let us honor the Mulkern Foundation and the countless women who are rewriting their stories, one lesson at a time.
And let us remember that our strength lies in our unity. Together, we can build a world where every woman has the opportunity to learn, to lead, and to dream.
